IOUZrEnvironmental Management,Inc U-Haul#709-50 <br /> 002-70950-02 Semi-Annual Report <br /> 12/14/00 <br /> 2 0 SITE BACKGROUND <br /> 2.1 SIIE ASCRIPTION <br /> Amerco/U-Haul owns and occupies the property and currently uses the site as a U-Haul vehicle and <br /> equipment rental and repair shop Two single-story buildings occupy the site The buildings include a <br />' former service station building and a garage (which was added on to the original building) The original <br /> building consists of an office/retail room and two garage bays on the south The add-on structure consists of <br />' two garage bays A separate storage container is located on the south side of the building Site features are <br /> shown on Figure 2 <br />' The site was formerlyused <br /> as a gasoline storage and retail facility According to a 1994 SOTA <br />' Environmental Technology, Inc (SOTA) work plan, the site was used as a gasoline retail facility from <br /> approximately 1950 until 1976 In 1976, the site was listed in the Polk directory as "Stockton Moving <br /> Center" From 1976 until 1990, the site was apparently used as a moving equipment rental facility Since <br /> 1990,U-Haul has used the site in its current capacity <br /> 2.2 DETECTION OF HYDROCARBON RELEASE <br /> According to a 1990 ETS Environmental&Assoc (ETS)report, four underground storage tanks (USTs)and <br /> associated fuel dispensers were removed from the site in 1990 The USTs consisted of a 10,000-gallon, a <br /> 8,000-gallon, and a 6,000-gallon tanks containing unleaded and gasoline fuel, and a 250-gallon capacity <br /> waste-oil tank All four tanks were orientated approximately east west Upon removal, the tanks were not <br /> replaced According to ETS, analytical results of soil samples collected from beneath the former USTs and <br /> associated product lines indicated detectable concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons in soil Based on <br /> results of soil samples collected during removal of the USTs (ETS, 1990), the release areas included the <br /> UST area and the product piping areas(Figure 2) <br /> f 2.21Type of Regulated Substance Released <br /> 1 Based on the detection of hydrocarbons in soil samples collected during removal of the USTs (ETS, 1990), <br /> the apparent substances released included unleaded and/or regular gasoline <br /> 3 <br />
