SOIL SUITABILITY
NITRATE LOADING STUDY
NEW HAVEN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
14600 AUSTIN ROAD, APN 206-100-05
MANTECA, CALIFORNIA
This report includes the results of a Soil Suitability/Nitrate Loading Study for Manteca Unified School
District's(MUSD)New Haven Elementary School Modernization Project located at 14600 Austin Road in
Manteca, California (the Site). Figure 1 (Appendix A) presents a Vicinity Map of the Site and Figure 2
(Appendix A)presents a Site Map/Aerial Photograph.
1.0 SOIL SUITABILITY STUDY
1.1 INTRODUCTION&DEVELOPMENT SECTION
The Soil Suitability Study(SSS)was conducted to determine whether Site soils are suitable for expansion
of the septic system as part of the New Haven Elementary School Modernization Project. The SSS was
performed pursuant to requirements of Section 9-1105.2(d) of the San Joaquin County Development code
and has been prepared to meet the requirements of the San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Department (EHD) Soil Suitability Study Requirement Checklist(dated 9/25/07). A major element of the
field work included conducting percolation tests that meet absorption rates as specified by the EHD. A
review of published soil information, geologic maps, and available groundwater information was also
conducted.
1.1.1 Description of Site, Including Zone Information
The New Haven Elementary School property is located in the northern San Joaquin Valley approximately
3 miles northeast of Manteca. The 16.95-acre site(APN 206-100-05) is generally rectangular in shape and
surrounded by mixed agriculture and rural residential development. Lathrop Road is immediately to the
south. The Site elevation is approximately 45 feet above mean sea level and the land is relatively flat(less
than 2 percent slope). The topographic gradient slopes gently west toward the San Joaquin River
approximately 7 miles away.
1.1.2 Description of Proposed Development
We understand that the proposed construction will include a new gymnasium and access improvements
associated with the building. The proposed gymnasium will be approximately 7,200 square feet and the
existing portable classrooms adjacent to the proposed building will be removed as part of the proposed
project. The proposed building(Building H)will utilize a new 5,000-gallon septic tank and 900 linear feet
of new leach line to supplement the existing system. The proposed layout for the Site's building locations,
and existing buildings is shown on Figures 3 and 4 (Appendix A). The school has an existing student
enrollment plus staff of 581,which is not projected to increase as a result of the project.
1.1.3 Parcel Vicinity Location Map
See Figure 5,Appendix A.
1.1.4 Site Map Showing Location of All Items on Parcels (i.e., Structures, Drives, Wells, Septic
Systems,Large Trees,Pastures,Pools,Natural Drainage Courses,Ponds,Waterways,Etc.)
See Figures 2 through 4(Appendix A).
IV CONDOR
