If waste transfer will not occur within the lab hood , check with the EHS <br /> department whether respirator use is required . <br /> • Identify the appropriate WAA container based on the properties of the waste <br /> • Ensure that no incompatible waste will be stored in the same container, secondary container or <br /> cabinet <br /> • Ensure that there is enough space in the WAA container <br /> • If the WAA container is smaller than 2 gallons, take the container out of the WAA and place it <br /> inside the vent hood . If the vent hood is not used, respirators may be required . <br /> • The WAA container must be inside a secondary containment tray during the waste transfer <br /> operation . If receiving container remains in WAA during the transfer operation , the existing <br /> secondary containment is adequate . If receiving container is moved from its location to a new <br /> location for the transfer operation , place the container in secondary container . <br /> • Open the receiving container and insert a funnel <br /> • Open SAA container <br /> • Carefully and slowly transfer from SAA container to receiving container until SAA container is <br /> empty <br /> • When operation is complete, close lid of SAA container <br /> • Wait until the funnel stops dripping and remove funnel <br /> • Close receiving container <br /> i <br /> • Place receiving container into WAA <br /> • Complete recordkeeping procedures and create a new SAA label for the SAA container . Note : if <br /> the SAA container is not completely empties out, the label must remain and you must indicate <br /> the transfer operation on the SAA container label , in addition , you must update the WAA <br /> container label as specified in the recordkeeping section <br /> 5 . 4 . 3 RECORDKEEPING <br /> The SAA waste will either be added to an existing WAA container, or the container itself will be placed in <br /> the WAA . If added to an existing container, the Hazardous waste accumulation log must be updated ' you <br /> must either enter the date, initials and type and amount of waste being added at that time on the <br /> 19 <br />
