1
08 March 1999
AGE-NC Protect No 95-0130
measurements or changes of recharge/discharge of the local ground water could greatly
modify ground water flow direction
' • Due to an anomalous field measurements, ground water elevations calculated from VW-I C,
VW-2A and VW-3A were not utilized to contour ground water elevations
' • Between the September 1998 and December 1998 ground water monitoring events, ground
water elevation increased an average 0 68 feet at the site
' • The ground water surface elevation at the site is between 8 07 and 20 53 feet above the
slotted screen intervals in wells MW-1 through MW-5 and VW-lC and up to 2 66 feet in
wells VW-2A and VW-3A Therefore samples collected from wells MW-1 through MW-5
' and VW-IC may not be representative of dissolved petroleum hydrocarbon concentrations
in shallow ground water
' • From September to December 1998, a substantial decrease in dissolved petroleum
hydrocarbon concentrations were observed from wells MW-2, MW-3 and MW-4 which are
wells drowned by 14 feet to 20 feet of water (Table 2)
• Conversely, substantial dissolved hydrocarbon-concentration increases were observed from
well MW-5
' • MTBE was confirmed in wells MW-2, MW-3, VW-1C, VW-2A and VW-3A at
concentrations ranging to 3,200 Azg/l
• TBA was detected in water samples collected from MW-5 at a concentration of 130 µg/l
• No other fuel oxygenates were detected above laboratory limits in any other samples
• BTEX compounds were detected in wells MW-1,MW-2,MW-5, VW-1C, VW-2A and VW-
3A at concentrations ranging to 49,000,ug/l (benzene, VW-I C)
• The elevated concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons detected in samples collected from
wells VW-1 C,VW-2A and VW-3A indicate that these wells are within or near the dissolved
petroleum hydrocarbon"core area"of the plume
• The verticaI/honzontal extent of impacted soil and ground water has not been delineated
towards the northeast
5.0. RECOMMENDATIONS
Based upon the results of this investigation, AGE recommends
• Continued quarterly ground water monitoring The next quarterly monitoring and sampling
is scheduled for March 1999
Advanced GeoEnviron mental,Inc
