' . 25 February 2004
AGE-NC Project No 95-0130
' 23 SOIL BORING LOGS
During dnlling, sample duplicates were monitored for the presence of organic vapor using an organic
' vapor meter equipped with a photo-ionization detector(PID Thermo Environmental 580B, 10 0 eV,
calibrated to isobutylene)and were visually described on boring logs in accordance with the Unified
Soil Classification System (USCS) Boring logs are included as Appendix A General llthology
' beneath the site is depicted in cross sectional view on Figures 3 and 4
2 4 MONITORING WELL COMPLETION
Soil borings for EW-1 and EW-2 were single-completed as ground water extraction wells utilizing
' schedule 40,6-inch diameter blank and perforated(0 030-inch)polyvinylchlonde(PVC)well casing,
the soil boring for MW-8 was single-completed as aground water monitoring well utilizing schedule
40, 2-inch diameter blank and perforated (0 020-inch) PVC well casing
' Each well was installed by placing the PVC well casing assembly through the hollow stem of the
augers to the total depth of the boring The augers were incrementally raised at EW-1 and EW-2 as
a 50150 blend of No 3 Lonestar Lapis Luster sand and aquarium gravel (filter pack) was slowly
poured down the annulus between the well casing and the inner wall of the hollow stern auger, No
3 Lonestar Lapis Luster sand was utilized as the filter pack material for MW-8 The filter pack was
' placed adjacent to the screened casing from the bottom of the boring to a point approximately two
feet above the top of the screen, following filter pack placement, a surge block was inserted into the
' well casing and was alternately raised and lowered (surged) repeatedly for approximately 10-20
minutes Two feet of bentonite chips (annular seal) were placed above the filter pack and were
hydrated with clean tap water The remaining annular space was backfilled with portland cement
1 (grout seal) As-built monitoring well-construction diagrams are included as Figures 5 through 7
1 2 5 MONITORING WELL DEVELOPMENT
On 31 July 2003, extraction and monitoring wells EW-1, EW-2 and MW-8 were developed by
' Mitchell Drilling Environmental utilizing (1) a 2-inch diameter, stainless steel hand bailer and (2)
an air compressor with attached 1-inch diameter hosing to air-lift any remaining sediment
accumulated at the bottom of each well Ground water was bailed and/or air-lifted from each
monitoring well until ground water was visually sediment free, approximately 75 gallons of water
were removed from extraction wells EW-1 and EW-2 and 25 gallons of water removed from
monitoring well MW-8 Purged ground water was contamenzed in properly labeled DOT-approved
' model 17H 55-gallon drums and was stored on-site in an area lacking public access
Advanced GeoEnviron mental,Inc
