<br /> Based on the types of violations observed,the facility employees are not trained on proper hazardous waste(HW)
<br /> handling or the training provided has been inadequate.
<br /> 1.When asked how employee's determine which HW tote a waste item should be placed into, Bill did know who to
<br /> call if he had questions. Bill was not aware to call the phone number for M.S.D.S, listed on the Spill Response Tips
<br /> poster posted next to the HW storage area, in order to obtain more information about hazardous material and item
<br /> Safety Data Sheets (SDS). (IMG 7482)
<br /> 2. The following observations were made in the hazardous waste(HW)storage area of the facility(IMG 7481, 7527):
<br /> A. The following bagged waste items were found in a Toxic HW tote(IMG 7486):
<br /> 1.A package containing a Duracell alkaline 9V1 battery. However, when Bill Davis, Store Manager, scanned
<br /> the battery's barcode,the hand-held scanner stated the battery should be placed in the Universal Environmental Bin.
<br /> Bill stated that the battery should have been placed into the Universal Waste tote. (IMG 7486-90)
<br /> 2.A seemingly empty container of Window Cleaner containing ammonia, and with an absorbent pad.According
<br /> to Bill,this cleaner was a store-use item,which was used by employees to clean the facility. Bill stated that store-use
<br /> items are marked as store-use and have the item's barcode crossed out,According to Bill, empty chemical containers
<br /> are also scanned to determine which hazardous waste tote the item should be placed in.According to the Dollar
<br /> General(DG)Environmental Compliance poster(Poster),found posted next to the HW storage area, items labeled as
<br /> containing ammonia are to be placed in the Alkaline HW tote. (IMG 7483, 7492-3)
<br /> 3.A Febreze Air Freshener aerosol can. However, according to the Poster, and the DG Flammable HW
<br /> Guidance document(Guidance)also posted near the HW storage area, aerosols are to be placed in the Flammable
<br /> HW tote. (IMG 7494, 7497-7502).
<br /> 4.A seemingly empty container of Mean Green Super Strength Cleaner&Degreaser, and with an absorbent
<br /> pad. However,the scanner indicated the cleaner should be placed in the Alkaline HW tote. (IMG 7503-6)
<br /> 5.A seemingly empty container of Pine Glo Antibacterial and Disinfectant cleaner. Since,the scanner did not
<br /> provide an indication as to which HW tote this cleaner should be placed in, Bill stated he would have thought to place
<br /> the container in the Flammable HW tote since he believed Pine Sol cleaner,which is pictured on the DG Flammable
<br /> HW Guidance, is similar to the Pine Glo cleaner. (IMG 7507-10)
<br /> 6.A seemingly empty container of LA's Totally Awesome Cleaner Degreaser Spot Remover,and with an
<br /> absorbent pad. However, according to the DG Alkaline HW Guidance, degreasers are classified as Alkaline HW. (IMG
<br /> 7500, 7511, 7515)
<br /> 7.A container of Armor All Glass Cleaner leaking out of the bag and into a tote, and with an absorbent pad.
<br /> However, according to the DG HW Flammable Guidance, glass cleaners are classified as Flammable HW. (IMG
<br /> 7512-7514, 7523-4)
<br /> 8.A leaking container of Tide CA laundry detergent was found missing it's cap,with paper towels partially
<br /> blocking the container opening, and without absorbent pads,According to Dollar General's Environmental Compliance
<br /> Program Training, absorbent pads shall be placed in a bag with a leaking item before placing the bagged item upright
<br /> in the HW tote to prevent spillage. (IMG 7516-17, 7608)
<br /> 9.An aerosol can of Raid,which was missing the actuator.According to the DG Poster, and Flammable HW
<br /> Guidance, aerosols are classified as Flammable HW. (IMG 7519-20)
<br /> 10.A blue auxiliary cable, According to Bill,the auxiliary cable should have been placed in the Universal Waste
<br /> tote. (IMG 7525)
<br /> 11.A container of Body Fantasies Pink Vanilla Kiss Fragrance Body Spray,with a flammable warning on the
