The U S Alert number assigned was 214418 .
• FIELD WORK
On August 11, 2000, John N. Alt, a Certified Engineering
Geologist, and John P. Cummings of JPCA met with a V & W DRILLING
INC. , crew to take the soil and groundwater samples. The push
drill met "refusal" at approximately 25 feet and drilling was
halted.
A rotary auger drill would be needed. The agreed date to
complete the soil and groundwater sampling was September 7 , 2000.
On September 7 , 2000, John N. Alt, a Certified Engineering
Geologist, and John P. Cummings of JPCA again met with a V & W
DRILLING INC. , crew, Margaret Lagorio, SREHS of the San Joaquin
County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division
(SJCEHD) and the site 's owner.
One boring was advanced to an approximate depth of 50 feet,
approximately three feet beyond where groundwater was first
encountered. An 8-inch diameter hollow-stem auger was used to
accomplish the advancement of the boring. The boring log is
contained in Appendix A.
Soil samples were collected at each 5 ft level interval
•
commencing at a depth of ten feet, using a split spoon tube
sampler loaded with pre-cleaned brass tubes. The soil samples
collected at 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 feet below grade were used to
identify the soil stratigraphy and held but not chemically
analyzed.
Soil samples, at approximately 30, 35, 40, and 45 feet were
collected in the lowest brass liner and preserved by covering
both ends with Teflon tape, capping with plastic caps and sealing
the caps. Soil samples were labeled and logged under Chain-of-
Custody (COC) control . Soil samples were stored in a cooler with
ice, transported to a state certified laboratory for analysis
[four samples] with COC documentation.
One groundwater sample was collected at 50-53 feet below grade
which was the termination of the boring. A clean dedicated
bailer was used to obtain the sample, then the sample was placed
in two 40 ml VOAs with Teflon septa, labeled, held in a cooled ( 4
Degrees C) ice chest and transported to a State Certified
Laboratory, under COC documentation, for analyses.
Sampling equipment was decontaminated using tri-sodium phosphate
solution (TSP) and twice rinsed with the last rinse using
distilled water prior to sampling. Soil cuttings were left on
2
