APPENDIX A <br /> TOXIC HEALTH HAZARDS <br /> This list of chemicals represents a composite of commonly identified toxins which are associated with the air, water, and soil <br /> contamination of a tire fire. The list is certainly not limited to these chemicals exclusively. <br /> Acenaphthene-Experimentally causes tumor formation. Pentachlorophenol-Highly toxic. Irritating to the eyes <br /> and skin. Contact dermatitis can occur. Highly toxic by <br /> Acrylonitrile - Toxic by inhalation, ingestion, or skin ingestion. <br /> absorption. <br /> Phenols - Toxic. Causes severe tissue burns. Lethal <br /> Anthracene - A recognized carcinogen of the skin, amounts may be absorbed through the skin or absorbed. <br /> hands, forearm, and scrotum. An experimental <br /> carcinogen of the bladder. Sulfur Dioxide-Highly toxic. Extremely irritating to the <br /> eyes and respiratory tract. <br /> Arsenic -An experimental carcinogen. <br /> Styrene -Eye and respiratory irritant. <br /> Benzene - Repeated inhalation of low concentrations <br /> often results in severe or fatal anemia. Also a severe Toluene - Eye and respiratory irritant. Extreme <br /> skin and eye irritant, inhalation of vapors may cause death by paralysis of the <br /> respiratory center. <br /> Benzoflouranthene - Experimentally causes the <br /> formation of tumors and cancer in mice. Zinc-Exposure symptoms include nausea and vomiting. <br /> Many zinc salts are known or suspected carcinogens. <br /> Butadiene -Slight respiratory irritant and slightly toxic. <br /> References for Toxic Health Hazards <br /> Cadmium-An experimental carcinogen.Some evidence <br /> of teratogencity(causes developmental malformations).
