By minimizing what flows into the MS, this instrument is able to utilize a
chemical NEG pump rather than a mechanical pump. The NEG pump
maintains adequate vacuum for several weeks. As a result, this compact
pump allows the GC/MS to be used in a portable mode without the use of a
heavy mechanical pump. The run time on the Hapsite GUMS is typically 10
minutes or less. A very aggressive list of compounds can be achieved in this
time. Since the column is isothermal, there is no cool down time necessary
and the next analysis can be started immediately for maximum throughput.
In addition to target compounds, the Hapsite GUMS produces standard
NIST searchable spectra to identify unknown compounds. The Hapsite
GC/MS co-injects 2 compounds as internal standards with every analysis.
These compounds are used for quantitative reasons and as additional
QA/QC for each analysis.
Quality Assurance/Quality Control
Five-Point Calibration
The GC/MS will be calibrated for the compounds of interest. A five-point
calibration will be performed. The five concentration levels will span the
linear range of the instrument. The calibration will have a relative standard
deviation (RSD) of less than or equal to 25%.
Mass Spectral Ion Intensity Verification
The mass spectral ion intensities will be verified at the beginning each day of
analyses. They will be verified using 4-Bromofluorobenzene (BFB).
Standard SW-846 acceptance criteria will be used. Tune verification will be
considered valid for 12 hours.
Continuing Calibration Checks
There will be a mid-level calibration check standard analyzed on the GUMS
at the beginning of each day of analyses. The acceptance criteria for the
calibration check standards will be ± 30% of the expected concentrations for
the target compounds.
System and Reagent Blanks
A blank sample will be analyzed prior to analysis of any samples. Also blank
samples will be analyzed in accordance with requirements set forth in the
RFP to ensure no carryover. The acceptance criteria for the blank samples
will be that there are no compounds above the detection limit.
SP Environmental Services©November, 2000 Page 6 of 7 Sukut Construction,Inc.
Air Monitoring Plan-DRAFT Tracy Tire Fire Suppression Project
