It is a moderate fire and explosion hazard in <br /> the forms of dust and vapor when exposed to heat and flame. Antimony can react <br /> violently with acids, halogens and oxidants. Short-term exposure to antimony can cause <br /> gastrointestinal pain, cough, loss of appetite, itching, skin eruptions, and irritation of <br /> the eyes, nose, and throat. <br /> ® The OSHA PEL is listed as 0.5 mg/m'. <br /> ■ The CaVOSHA PEL is listed as 0.5 mg/m'. <br /> ® The TLV is listed as 0.5 mg/m'. <br /> Exposure to antimony at high levels can result in a variety of adverse health effects. <br /> Breathing high levels for a long duration can irritateyou eyes and lungs and can cause <br /> heart and lung problems, stomach pain, diarrhea, vomiting, and stomach ulcers. In <br /> long-term studies, animals that breathed very low levels of antimony had eye irritation, <br /> hair loss, lung damage and heart problems. Metallic arsenic is most commonly a <br /> gray, brittle, crystalline solid. It can also be in a black or yellow amorphous form. <br /> Arsenic is also commonly found in its volatile white trioxide form. Arsenic is used in <br /> several insecticides, herbicides, defoliants, desiccants, and rodenticides and appears in <br /> a variety of forms. It is also used in tanning, pigment production, glass manufacturing, <br /> wood preservation, and anti-fouling coatings. <br /> Arsenic enters the body principally through the mouth, either in food or in water. Most <br /> ingested arsenic is Quickly absorbed through the stomach and intestines and enters the <br /> bloodstream, although this varies somewhat for different forms of arsenic.
