sb
6.3 Environmental Chemical Hazard Sampling Strategy and Methodologies
6.3.1 Environmental Assessment Technical Approach
Field Portable Analytical Services [FPA] will be performing air monitoring for air Quality
regarding VOCs during the Tracy Tire Fire Remediation Project. Specific locations will
be monitored and will include on-site as well as perimeter locations. FPA will collect
and analyze multiple samples by field-portable gas chromatography/mass spectrometry
[GC/MS]. Each air sample will reQuire analysis for Volatile Organic Compounds
[VOC's] and Tentatively Identified Compounds [TICS] by field-portable [GC/MS]. The
use of field-portable GC/MS will provide rapid, definitive data for the compounds of
interest. Air samples will be collected through direct on-line analysis or into I-liter
Tedlar bags. Air samples will be analyzed for VOC's [See Table 6-2 below]. Results will
be provided to the project team as they are acQuired.
The detection limit for compounds on the soil gas list will be 0.2 ppmv (between 0.5
ug/L and 1.0 ug/L). The upper end of the calibration curve will be 100 ppmv. Samples
with concentrations higher than the upper end of the calibration curve will be diluted
appropriately. Unknown compounds above 1.0 ppmv will be reported as Tentatively
Identified Compounds.
Table 6-2: ReQuested Soil Gas Compound List
Compound CAS Number Quant Mass
Benzene,....---,,.....,,,.....,,..._,.,.._ 71_._,_.._,_
43-2 78
Toluene 108-88-3 91
Ethyl Benzene 100-41-4 91
m -X lene 108-38-3/106-42-3 91
o-X lene 95-47-6 91
Cumene 98-82-8 105
Styrene 100-42-5 104
13 — Butadiene 106-99-0 54
Hexane 110-54-3 57
Unknown (TIC's) NA NA
Sb Environmental Services,LLC O October,2003 California Integrated Waste Management Board
Site Specific Health and Safety Plan Page 42 of 62 Tracy Tire Fire Remediation Project
