sb <br /> 9.7.4 Brown Recluse Spiders <br /> 3 <br /> Symptoms: <br />( p Body as a whole <br /> no immediate pain <br /> pain developing within the first several hours after being bitten <br /> -1 -k- pain becoming severe <br /> general feeling of discomfort <br /> formation of an ulcer in the bite area within the first 24 hours. <br /> chills <br /> sweating <br /> Skin <br /> { reddish to purplish color to skin in area around bite <br /> itching <br /> nausea and/or vomiting <br /> Treatment: Wash the skin whereyou were bitten with soap and water. Apply an ice <br /> } pack or cool compress several times a day for 24 to 48 hours. To help <br /> reduce redness and swelling, keep the bite area raised above the level <br /> of your heart. DO NOT use heat. Soak the area daily in Burow's <br /> solution (available in drug stores without a prescription). Do not <br /> scratch the bite area. Keep it clean and covered with an adhesive <br /> orsterile gauze bandage. <br /> } The patient should be taken to the Emergency Room for treatment if <br /> thought to be bitten by a brown recluse spider. The symptoms at the <br /> y time of the bite may not appear to be very severe and may take a while <br /> to progress to a more severe state.
