LFR Levine-Fricke
The Site is a closed basin with no paths for surface water outfall and there are no
significant surface water sources (e.g., streams, ponds) located at the Site. The Banta
Carbona Irrigation District Canal bounds the gravel pit to the east and Corral Hollow
Creek, an intermittent stream, is located 500 feet to the south. Other surface water in
the vicinity of the Site consists of Delta Mendota Canal (located approximately 0.5
mile to the southwest) and California Aqueduct (located 1 mile to the southwest).
3.0 QUARTERLY GROUNDWATER MONITORING
3.1 Scope of Work
' i
During the third quarter of 2003, LFR staff measured depth-to-groundwater and
collected groundwater samples from the five site monitoring wells (MW-1 through
MW-5). The five groundwater samples were submitted to a state-certified laboratory
for chemical analysis and LFR staff evaluated the monitoring and sampling results.
f3.2 Groundwater Monitoring
Quarterly groundwater samples were collected from wells MW-1 through MW-5 on
August 4, 2003. Prior to purging and sampling activities, depth to groundwater was
measured using an electronic water-level meter. Groundwater elevations are
summarized in Table 1 and groundwater elevation contours are shown on Figure 3.
Each well was purged prior to sampling by removing at least 3 well casing volumes of
water. The specific conductance, pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, and temperature of
j the removed water was measured and observed during well purging. The water-quality
parameters and other pertinent information were recorded on water-quality sampling
data sheets (Appendix A).
Groundwater samples were collected after water parameters stabilized using a clean,
unused, disposable bailer at each well. The water was poured into laboratory-supplied
containers. Each container was capped, labeled with the well identification, time and
date of sample collection, and analysis requested, and then placed into an ice-chilled
cooler for transport to the laboratory.
Standard chain-of-custody protocol was followed during the sample handling process.
Water generated during sampling activities was transferred into properly labeled 55-
j gallon drums. The water in the drums will be sampled and analyzed for appropriate
disposal.
3.3 Chemical Analyses
ICollected groundwater samples were submitted to Severn Trent Laboratory, Inc. (STL)
(a state-certified analytical laboratory) located in West Sacramento, California, on a
TTF QMR Q3-03(10.21-031:IEE Page 3
