LFR Inc.
ensured that trucks were loaded within their load limit and that the hauling process was
optimized.
Trucks then proceeded to the
decontamination and tarping area
where they were cleaned and
covered by SCI support staff
(Photograph 6). Truck
decontamination proceeded in
two stages. The first stage
consisted of multiple laborers
working in shifts (to minimize
stress and potential exposure to
waste materials). One SCI
laborer directed and stopped each
truck while two to three other
laborers climbed elevated
scaffolding platforms and brushed Photograph 5
the outer walls and the top of the Truck on scale being trimmed to meet weight
trailer. The laborers then covered requirements
the trucks with the truck's
dedicated tarp to prevent loss of
waste during transport. After each truck was brushed and covered, it proceeded to the
second stage.
The second stage consisted of a gravel pad, approximately 20 feet wide and 100 feet
long, laid with 1.5- to 2-inch crushed rock. The purpose of this gravel pad was to
remove any remaining waste material that may have accumulated in the treads of the
tires before the truck left the Site. The truck then proceeded to the manifest area,
where the driver gathered the appropriate paperwork from the manifest coordinator (a
representative from Denbeste
Trucking) for transporting the
waste to the intended landfill.
The manifests were signed by
either the CIWMB Project
Manager or by a designated
representative of the State. At no
point during the loading or
decontamination process was the
truck driver allowed to exit the
truck. This procedure was
implemented to minimize the
driver's potential exposure to
waste materials during the
loading and decontamination
process.
