s 5.6 Selection of Sample Locations The exact location of samples may change in the field based on the field conditions and the ability to collect soils underlying burn debris. Efforts will be made to sample at the locations of major tire storage areas, identified from areal photos and ground reconnaissance. Figure 5-1 shows the proposed sample locations. Each sample location will be located by GPS, range finder or a combination of both. This will give the latitude, longitude and approximate elevation of each sample location. 5.7 Background Locations Background soil samples will be collected in areas that are unaffected by tire facility activities, or other waste management activities. Background groundwater levels have been established during the August 14, 1998 well sampling event of three private wells. i 5.8 Sample Identification I I Each soil sample location will have a unique number assigned to it. E Each groundwater sample location will have a unique label assigned to it. i <Location name>-<Date Sampled> E Example: A water sample collected at the Teichert gravel pit on December 17, 1998 will be labeled as Teichert-12/17/98. 5.9 Sample Handling and Shipment Each of the samples will be labeled and placed on ice in a cooler. € The sample container lids and/or the cooler lid will be secured with custody seals. All sample documents will accompany the samples to the laboratory. The samples will be delivered overnight by mail carrier to the START Basic Ordering Agreement Laboratory.
