PUBLIC INFORMATION UPDATE <br /> San Joaquin County <br /> Royster's Tire Farm Incident <br /> August 8, 1998 / 0700 hrs. <br /> Immediate Release: <br /> Contact: Rex Osborn, Mutual Aid Public Information Officer <br /> Pager# 209-937-2447 <br /> Health Advisory - General Information <br /> Tracy, CA: The joint incident command center for the Royster's Tire Farm incident is <br /> advising that there could be some health concerns related to this is tire fire. Currently fire <br /> officials are monitoring the fire and allowing it to burn out. Because of the type of <br /> material burning, there is an additional health concerns for those with chronic lung or heart <br /> disease, and those who are over 65 and very young children. <br /> According to Dr. Karen Furst, of the San Joaquin County Health Department, the <br /> following actions should be taken if you fit into one of those risk groups. <br /> • If you find particulate, such as ash or increased smoke in your neighborhood, you <br /> would stay inside and close all windows and doors. If you are unable to close your <br /> windows and doors, you should seek other securable shelter. <br /> • If you have lung disease or asthma, and live in an area where there is higher risk, you <br /> should contact your personal physician and have adequate supply of medicine. <br /> • If you are experiencing any symptoms associated with shortness of breath or tightness <br /> of the chest, you should seek immediate medical attention. <br /> • Today, people in the area should limit pollution causing activities, to include mowing, <br /> Bar-B-Q's and other smoke or air pollutant activities. <br /> This is an information update, provided by the San Joaquin County Health Department. <br /> 4 End# <br />
