Contamination associated with the burn
piles included ash, burned material, and pyrolytic oil- and metals-affected soil. Each
alternative was evaluated in the RAP using the criteria specified in the National
Contingency Plan (NCP) and U.S. EPA guidance (U.S. EPA 1988).
1.2.1 Remedial Action Objective
The RAO for the Site was to remove or mitigate the source of contamination associated
with burned material present at the Site to provide immediate protection to human
health and the environment. To meet this objective, the RAP was developed to remove
Class I non-Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (-RCRA) hazardous waste, Class
II designated waste, and discolored soil from the Site for off-site disposal.
Page 2 rpt-RA_summ-Nov06-final-09025:FNC
