the extent and nature of this leak The Roeks in 1988 had conducted a Preliminary Site <br /> Assessment (Phase 1) and in 1989 a soil and groundwater investigation (Phase 2) <br /> 2.1.1 Preliminary Site,Assessment <br /> As outlined in Attachment 1 of the claim application form, a preliminary site <br /> assessment has been conducted by BCA under the ownership of the Roek Brothers. <br /> Y � The findings of this assessment are presented in the report titled "Hydrocarbon <br /> Evaluation Study for Roek Brothers Property Market Street and Wilson Way, <br /> Stockton, California", April 1988 The findings of this assessment was as follows <br /> • Types of soils encountered were loose fill till 15 feet, silty clay till 26 feet, <br /> intermittent silty sands, silty clays and sandy clays till a depth of about 42 feet. <br /> • The extent of contamination cannot be determined by a single test boring, however <br /> the extent of contamination is estimated to be about an area of 320 square feet to a <br /> depth of 5 feet. <br /> • Soil bonngs through and adjacent to former tank excavation indicate low or no <br /> level of petroleum hydrocarbons. A high of 196 mg/kg of Total Petroleum <br /> Hydrocarbons was found. <br /> O The concentration level of the contaminated sods can be reduced by aeration <br /> The recommendation of this assessment was to excavate the contaminated soil and <br /> aerate it to reduce petroleum hydrocarbons to an acceptable level <br /> 2.1.2 Soil and Groundwater Inveshgation <br /> In 1989 and 1990, a Phase 2 investigation was undertaken to determine the extent of <br /> soil and groundwater contamination at the subject property. Attachment 1 of the claim <br /> form describes the activities conducted toward the soil and groundwater investigation <br /> The nature and findings of these investigations were reported in the following <br /> documents <br /> 1.
