6-39.01 General Asphalt concrete shall be Type B and shall <br /> conform to these Special Provisions and the following sections of <br /> the Standard Specifications: <br /> 39-1 General <br /> 39-2 Materials <br /> 39-3 Storing, Proportioning and <br /> Mixing Materials <br /> 39-4.01 Subgrade <br /> 39-4.02 Prime Coat and Paint Binder <br /> All bituminous binder shall be viscosity grade AR-4000 liquid <br /> asphalt except AR-8000 liquid asphabt shall be used when the <br /> ambient temperature is over 90 to 95 F. Asphalt shall conform <br /> to those applicable parts of Section 92 "Asphalt" of the Standard <br /> Specifications. <br /> The mineral aggregate shall be 3/4-inch maximum size for base <br /> courses when such work constitutes 100 or more tons, and shall be <br /> as specified on the plans for the finish course. <br /> Medium gradations shall be used. For base course work less than <br /> 100 tons, the aggregate size may be the same as the finish <br /> course. Asphalt concrete work required at manholes, water valves, <br /> feathering, and other miscellaneous facilities shall be 3/8-inch <br /> maximum size. <br /> Asphalt concrete shall not be placed until the subgrade has been <br /> approved by the Engineer. Unstable subgrade shall not be paved. <br /> A prime coat is not required. <br /> SS-1 asphaltic emulsion shall be applied to existing pavements, <br /> lower courses of new pavements (unless upper course is being <br /> applied in the same day and the lower course is clean) , and <br /> vertical edges of new or existing pavements, prior to paving. If <br /> recommended by the manufacturer, the emulsion may be diluted up to <br /> 1:1. Immediately before applying the emulsion, the surface shall <br /> be cleaned of all dirt and loose material . Asphaltic emulsion and <br /> application shall conform to the applicable parts of Sections 94 <br /> "Asphaltic Emulsions" and 39-4.02 "Prime Coat and Paint Binder" of <br /> the Standard Specifications. <br /> 6-39.02 (deleted) <br /> 6-39.03 (deleted) <br /> 6-39.04 Trench Replacement and Shoulder Paving Trench <br /> replacement and shoulder paving consists of spreading and <br /> compacting asphalt concrete in the following locations: <br /> a) trenches <br /> b) shoulders less than 8 feet wide adjacent to concrete curb and <br /> gutter <br /> c) asphalt sidewalks and ramps <br /> 6.8 <br /> TANK6/TXTW.02M <br />
