The dry ice should be
crushed and distributed evenly aver the greatest possible area to secure rapid
evaporation. Avoid skin contact with dry ice because it may produce burns. As the
dry ice vaporizes, flammable vapors will flaw out of the tank and may surround the
area. Hence, observe all normal safety precautions regarding flammable vapors.
Make sure that all of the dry ice has vaporized. Contractor is to analyze vapors in
tank to insure that the atmosphere in the tank is less than or equal to 10% of the
lower explosive limits.
6. After the tank has been freed of vapors and prior to moving frcm the site, plug or
cap all holes. Use threaded (boiler) plugs to plug any corrosion leak holes. One
tank fitting plug should have a 1/8-inch vent hole to prevent the tank fra, being
subjected to an excessive pressure differential caused by extreme temperature
changes.
6. 12
