February 3, 1986
Gordon Lee Boggs, Toxic Specialist
California Regional Water Quality
Control Board, Central Valley Region
3201 S Street
Sacramento, CA 95816-7090
Dear Gordon:
Attached is a copy of the soil investigation work plan prepared by
J. H. Kleinfelder & Associates to pinpoint the extent of soil con-
tamination in the area north of the main plant. A copy of this has
been hand-delivered to Laurie Cotulla, and the necessary permits
obtained to perform the boring on the days indicated.
It is our understanding that Guild will be allowed to proceed
with the installation of the champagne processing tank bases if no
contamination is found under that location.
Please rest assured that Guild will clean up the soil contamination
~w by one of the three methods that we discussed with Mr. Forgoer during
your last visit. If the method chosen is to excavate the area and
remove the soil , this will be done during the 28-day concrete curing
cycle, if at all possible. At the very least, the area nearest the
tank bases will be excavated and refilled with clean soil, so that
the: tanks can be installed while further excavation takes place.
If you have any questions in this matter; please feel free to contact
Mr. Forquer or me.
Sincerely,
Ruben Moser
Vice President
Operations
RM:ih
Attachment
cc: L.
