rM
FA
1. H. KLEINFELDER&ASSOCIATES
File: W-2006--1
December 16, 1485
Page 11
chemical analyses on the ground water samples collected
from the monitoring wells and the production well.
VI. DISCUSSION OF RESULTS
A. Soil
Data obtained from the PID readings and analytical
results show the presence of hydrocarbons below the tank
excavation area. Interpretation and extrapolation of
data from the limited number of borings indicate that
hydrocarbons have migrated primarily in a vertical
direction. The PID readings did not detect hydrocarbons
in any of the .samples above 16 feet. There may be an
increased lateral component to the hydrocarbons migration
in the soil just above the ground water table and is
likely due to capillary intrapment of the gasoline along
the ground water surface. The highest PID readings and
analytical results were detected in the 16 and 26 foot
samples from Boring B--1. Boring B--1 was placed
approximately five feet to the east of excavated area.
Because of the shed structure, soil borings could not be
— ?' placed to check the migration of hydrocarbons in the soil
to the south or southeast of the excavated area. No odor
T was encountered in the cuttings of the bo:•ings in which
the four monitoring wells were installed.
