02 April 2018 AdvancedGeo
AGE Project No. 18-4357 Environmental
Page 4 of 5
trench. However, to fill any data gaps which were not fulfilled during the, soil sampling will
likely be required to ensure, reuse or backfill and disposal of the soil is practicable.
Each soil sample will be collected with a metric soil sampling slide-hammer, loaded with
a pre-cleaned steel sleeve. Appropriately sealed and labeled samples will be placed in a
chilled container under ice and transported under chain-of-custody procedure to a CDPH-
certified laboratory. Each sample sleeve will be labeled with trench designation, depth,
time, date and sampler's initials. Soils encountered in the trenches will be visually
classified by AGE personnel in accordance with the USCS. Additionally, soil samples will
be field-screened for presence of volatile organic compounds using an OVM.
Selected soil samples collected from the trenches will be analyzed for the suite of
chemicals listed in the Section 3.4.
AGE anticipates up to 8 samples to be analyzed for the production chemicals of concern;
however, each will be selected to evaluate selected chemicals based on location and
distribution. Laboratory reports for analyses, testing methods, laboratory quality
assurance/quality control (QA/QC) reports, and sample chain-of-custody documentation
will be presented in a report with the findings and recommendations.
3.4. LABORATORY ANALYSIS
Selected soil samples (appropriate for each evaluation and chemical source) will be
analyzed by a California Department of Public Health (CDPH)-certified laboratory for
the following constituents:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline, diesel and oil range
compounds (TPH-g.d.o) in accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified;
• Volatile organic compounds (VOCs), including chlorinated VOCs and "BTEX"
compounds and fuel additives/fuel oxygenates (methyl tertiary butyl ether[MTBE],
tertiary butyl alcohol [TBA], di-isopropyl ether [DIPE], ethyl tertiary butyl ether
[ETBE], tertiary amyl methyl ether [TAME] and lead scavengers
1,2-dichloroethane [1,2-DCA] and 1,2-dibromomethane [EDB]) in accordance with
EPA Method 826013;
• Polychlorinated bi-phenols (PCBs) in accordance with EPA Method 8082.
• Polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PNAs) or polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons
(PAHs) and semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) in accordance with EPA
Method 8270;
• CAM 17 Metals Total Threshold Limit Concentration (minimally: lead, cadmium,
chromium, nickel and zinc) by EPA Method 6010B/6020/207/208. Soluble
Threshold Limit Concentration may additionally be analyzed for metals.
