i
26 May 1998
AGE-NC Project No 96-0266
3 2 4 , WELL COMPLETION
Borings MW-1 to MW-6 were completed as ground water monitoring wells Each well was
j ' completed using 2-inch diameter schedule 40 PVC casing with 0 02-inch slotted screen from
approximately 5 to 20 feet bsg A filter pack was installed using 42 Lonestar sand from 4 to 20 feet
Bentonite chips were used to make a two-foot plug and the remaining annular space was backfilled
to the surface with portland cement A traffic-rated well box(8- inch diameter) was installed over
each well, in accordance with County regulations As-built monitoring well diagrams are depicted
in Appendix B
3 3 GROUND WATER MONITORING AND SAMPLING
' 3 3 1 MONITORING WELL DEVELOPMENT AND PURGING
' On 12 January 1997, a Sollnst water level meter was used to measure the depth to ground water in
each well relative to the top of the well casings
lie After ground water depth measurements were collected, monitoring wells MW-I through MW- 6
were purged using a stainless steel two-stage submersible pump Approximately 20 gallons of water
were evacuated from each well Temperature, pH and conductivity were measured at 5-gallon
intervals using an ICM model 52200 water analyzer Stabilization data and field logs are included
in Appendix C
3 3 2 GROUND WATER SAMPLE COLLECTION -
Upon stabilization, water samples were collected from each purged well using new, clean disposable
plastic bailers Immediately upon retrieval, samples were transferred into chilled 40-m1 EPA-
approved VOA vials containing 0 5 ml 18%hydrochloric acid as a preservative Additional sample
from wells MW-2, MW-4 and MW-6 was transferred into chilled 1-liter amber bottles The samples
' were placed in a chilled container and transported under chain-of-custody to MAI All samples were
analyzed for TPH-g, BTE&X and MTBE, TBA, DIPS, ETBE and TAME Two samples were
analyzed for TPH-d in accordance with EPA methods 8015m The sample from well MW-6 was also
' analyzed for dissolved cadmium, chromium, cyanide, lead, nickel, silver and zinc in accordance with
EPA method 6010/9010
