6-22-1998 1 : 13PM FROM NPIC SACRAMENTO 916 858 2355 _ - P. 2
June 10, 1998
Page 2
concentration of benzene(48 mg/kg)was detected in sample PD-2 at 2 bgs. The
maximum concentration of MtBE(3.9 mg/kg)confirmed by EPA Method 8260 was
detected in sample PD-2 at 5-1/2 feet bgs.
Proposed Scope of Work
The scope of work proposed for this investigation wil include gree phases; I) Well
Survey, 2)Geoprobe®Soil and Groundwater Investigation;and 3)Groundwater
Monitoring Well Installation.
As required by the Occupational Health and,Safety A inistration(OSHA)Standard '
"Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency,Respo " guidelines(29 CFR
1910.120),.and by California Occupational Health and Safety Administration
(Cal-OSHA) "Hazardous Waste Operations and Em ency Response" guidelines(CCR
Title 8,Section 5192),PEG will prepare a Site-Specif.c Health and Safety Plan prior to
.the commencement of fieldwork. The Site-Specific alth.and Safety Plan will be
reviewed by the field staff and contractors before begi ming field operations at the site.
The specific scope of work to be accomplished is discussed below:
PHASE ONE: Well Survey
A Well Surverwill be performed to determine local groundwater usage in the vicinity of
the site. The survey will include a search of well reco ds at the Department of Water
Resources(DWR) in Sacramento to determine the existence of nearby water supply
wells, and local groundwater use. All wells within a one-half mile radius of the site
curreptly on file at DWR will be documented,
PHASE TWO: Geoprobe®Installation
Teti Geoprobes®will be located onsite to the north,s uth, east, and west of the product
islands to delineate the vertical and horizontal extent,of petroleum hydrocarbon '
contamination(Figure 2). All Geoprobes®will be dri ven,to a total depth of
approximately 20 feet bgs. Five Geoprobesg will collect samples at 5 foot intervals and
the remaining five will continuous core sample to the otal depth. The purpose of the
continuous core is to define the stratigraphy beneath..tfrl site. Sampling will continue
until groundwater(anticipated to be approximately 20 feet bgs)or refusal is encountered
whichever occurs first.
• Soil Selection and Analysis: Selected soil samples will be submitted to a California
State-certified laboratory and analyzed for the presence of TPH-g,BTEX,and MtBE.
Selected samples will also analyzed for physical/geotechnical parameters, including
fractional organic carbon content, determination o porosity, fluid saturation
(moisture content),bulk density, and grainy density
• Groundwater Analysis. After groundwater is encountered, water samples will be
collected from the boreholes and submitted to a Ca lifornia State-certified laboratory
911-007.IBIWP PLN
