June 10, 1998
Page 2 )
concentration of benzene (48 mg/kg) was detected in sample PD-2 at 2 bgs. The
maximum concentration of MtBE (3.9 mg/kg) confirmed by EPA Method 8260 was
detected in sample PD-2 at 5-1/2 feet bgs.
Proposed Scope of Work
The scope of work proposed for this investigation ll include three phases; 1) Well
Survey, 2) Geoprobeg Soil and Groundwater Investigation, and 3) Groundwater
Monitoring Well Installation.
As required by the Occupational Health and,Safety Administration (OSHA) Standard '
"Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency.Re pone" guidelines (29 CFR
1910.120),.and by California Occupational Health and Safety Administration
(Cal-OSHA) "Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response" guidelines (CCR
Title 8, Section 5192), PEG will prepare a Site-Sp cific Health and Safety Pian prior to
the commencement of fieldwork. The Site-Specific Health.and Safety Plan will be
reviewed by the field staff and contractors before beginning field operations at the site.
The specific scope of work to be accomplished is discussed below:
PHASE ONE: Well Survey
A Well Survey, will be performed to determine loczJ groundwater usage in the vicinity of
the site. The survey will include a search of well records at the Department of Water
Resources (DWR) in Sacramento to determine theexistence of nearby water supply
I
wells, and local groundwater use. All wells within a one-half mile radius of the site
currently on file at D WR will be documented.
PHASE TWO: Geoprobe®Installation
Ten Geoprobes® will be located onsite to the nortf., south, east, and west of the product
islands to delineate the vertical and horizontal exte t of petroleum hydrocarbon
contamination (Figure 2). All Geoprobes®will be driven to a total depth of
approximately 20 feet bgs. Five Geoprobes®will ollect samples at 5 foot intervals and
the remaining five will continuous core sample to tie total depth. The purpose of the
continuous core is to define the stratigraphy beneat ithe site. Sampling will continue
until groundwater(anticipated to be approximately 20 feet bgs) or refusal is encountered
whichever occurs first.
• Soil Selection and Analysis: Selected soil s ples will be submitted to a California
State-certified laboratory and analyzed for the presence of TPH-g, BTEX, and MtBE.
Selected samples will also analyzed for physical/geotechnical parameters, including
fractional organic carbon content, determination of porosity, fluid saturation
(moisture content), bulk density, and grain de ity.
• Groundwater Analysis. After groundwater is encountered, water samples will be
collected from the boreholes and submitted to a California State-certified laboratory
91-1-007.1 S/W RKPLN
