Daily fluid intake should approximately equal the amount of water lost
in perspiration. The normal thirst mechanism is not sensitive enough to provide for sufficient
consumption of water to replace lost fluids. The following is recommended when heavy perspiration
occurs:
Maintain drinking water temperature at 5 OF to 60°F.
Drink 16 ounces of fluid (preferably water or electrolyte replenishing fluid, such as
Gatorade) before beginning work.
Drink a cup or more of water or equivalent fl iid every 15 to 20 minutes, or at each
monitoring break. A total of 1 to 1.6 gallons of fluid per day is recommended, but
more may be necessary to maintain body weight.
F
x Noise Hazards
The rima noise hazard at UST tank removal sites is from excavation equipment, or drilling
primaryg
equipment, if used. Noise hazard surveys indicate tt at excavators and drill rigs may produce
continuous and impact noise at or above the OSHA Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL). Personnel
within 25 feet of operating equipment must wear he ring protective devices (either muffs or plugs).
A-9
F
