20 September 2000 <br /> • AGE-NC Project No 97-0333 <br /> ' Page 2 of 11 <br /> ' 21 DRILLING AND SAMPLING <br /> Soil bonngs/momtonng wells MW-1,MW-2,MW-3,MW-4 and MW-5 were advanced on-and off- <br /> site <br /> ffsite as part of site assessment activities related to the former USTs at the site Soil borings MW-1, <br /> MW-2, MW-3, MW-4 and MW-5 were advanced to 32 feet below surface grade (bsg) The soil <br /> borings were advanced utilizing a B-85 truck-mounted drill ng equipped with 8-inch diameter <br /> ' hollow-stem augers Soil cuttings and rinseate were containenzed in properly labeled D O T 55- <br /> gallon drums, and stored on-site in an area lacking public access, the soil bonng/monitonng well <br /> locations are depicted in Figure 2 <br /> 2 1 1 Soil Sample Collection <br /> Discrete soil samples were collected at 5-foot intervals beginning at 5 feet bsg from soil borings <br /> MW-1, MW-2,MW-3, MW-4 and MW-5 Soil samples were collected utilizing a California split- <br /> spoon sampler loaded with 2-inch by 6-inch brass sleeves The sampler was driven by dropping a <br /> 140-pound weight from a height of 30 inches The number of blows required to drive each 6-inch <br /> ' length of the sampler (blow counts) was recorded on boring logs by an AGE staff geologist <br /> Soil samples were preserved by covering both ends of the second brass sleeve with Teflon sheets, <br /> t capping and sealing with tape Each preserved sample sleeve was labeled with soil boring location, <br /> depth, time, date and sampler's initials <br /> Each preserved sample was logged on a chain-of-custody form, placed in a chilled container and <br /> transported to a California Department of Health Services (DHS)-certified laboratory for analysis <br /> for <br /> ' • Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g)by EPA Method 5030/8015M, <br /> ' • Volatile aromatic compounds - benzene, toluene, ethylbenienc and xylene (BTLX) with <br /> methyl-tertiary butyl ether(MTBE) by EPA Method 8020, and <br /> ° Methanol, ethanol, ethylene dibromide (EDB), 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA), tertiary <br /> ' butanol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tert butyl ether (ETBE), tert amyl methyl <br /> ether ( FAME), and confirmation of MTBE by EPA Method 8260 Modified <br /> ' I hL i(.',ult5 of the soil analyses arc contained in I-ables 1 <br /> ' rhiec ',Oil samples (Mw-S at 5 feet bsg, 15 feet bsg and 25 feet bsg) �Ncrc subniitte(-1 to Coopci <br /> lusting Lahoiatory for tc',ting ul 1-)c.rmeahility porosity, total organic content, hulk density and <br /> ediamid( (olimour u(nlo hit <br />
