' 08 September 2005 <br /> �i AGE-NC Project No 97-0333 <br /> ' Page 2 of 11 <br /> ' 2 1 GROUND WATER EXTRACTION-TREATMENT OPERATION <br /> During the first quarter 2005, extraction well EW-1 was adjusted at the well-head to continuously <br /> extract ground water at a flow rate of approximately 4 gallons per minute (GPM) All extracted <br /> ground water was routed through four 2,000-pound media vessels containing liquid phase granular <br /> activated carbon (GAC) Following treatment, water was discharged underground via 2-inch <br /> diameter polyvinylchloride (PVC)piping to the City of Manteca sewer system, discharge piping is <br /> connected to a sewer manhole located approximately 25 feet south of the pump-and-treat system <br /> Based on effluent flow meter readings (Table 1), approximately 286,020 gallons of treated water <br /> h were continuously extracted and discharged to the City of Manteca sewer system between <br /> 30 December and 15 March 2005 under City of Manteca Public Works Department (CMPWD) <br /> Industrial Wastewater Discharge Permit No 02-1 <br /> i <br /> ' 22 GROUND WATER EXTRACTION-TREATMENT SAMPLING PROCEDURES <br /> Ground water extraction and treatment influent, intermediate, and effluent water samples were <br /> rcollected on a monthly basis from valved ports located upstream(influent),after the third treatment <br /> media vessel(intermediate,GAC-3),and downstream(effluent)ofthe treatment unit The grab water <br /> samples were collected utilizing 40-milliliter (ml) EPA-approved volatile organic analysis (VOA) <br /> vials containing 0 5 ml 18% hydrochloric acid solution as a sample preservative, and 1-liter amber <br /> bottles with no preservative Care was taken to ensure that visible air bubbles were not present in the <br /> vials after filling and capping Ground water sample containers were labeled with the sample <br /> designation, date, time, and sampler's initials <br /> ' .23 LABORATORY ANALYSIS OF GROUNDWATER EXTRACTION AND TREATMENT <br /> Influent,intermediate(GAC-3),and effluent grab water samples were logged on a chain of custody <br /> ' form,placed in a chilled container,and transported to Cal Tech Environmental Laboratories(CTEL), <br /> a California Department of Health Services (DHS)-certified laboratory to be analyzed for <br /> ' - Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline,diesel,and motor oil(TPH-g,TPH-d, <br /> and TPH-mo, respectively) by EPA Method 8015 Modified, <br /> ra Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX) and fuel oxygenates methanol, <br /> ethanol, tetrachloroethene (PCE), trichloroethene (TCE), 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA), <br /> ' ethylene dibromide(EDB),tertiary butanol(TBA), di-isopropyl ether(DIPE),ethyl tertiary- <br /> butyl ether(ETBE),tertiary-amyl methyl ether(TAME),and MTBE by EPA Method 8260B, <br /> �i and <br /> Advanced GeoEnwronmental,Inc <br />
