The
laboratory will be requested to J-flag any detections of thallium below the PQL and above the
' MDL.
4.2.3 Sampling Procedures
' Proposed profile and confirmation samples will be collected with a hand auger, shovel, or other
appropriate sampling tool. Prior to collection of the sample, the area to be sampled will be
' scraped with a decontaminated trowel or spoon to expose a fresh surface. Samples will be
collected in pre-cleaned glass jars. Glass jars will be filled completely with soil from the
exposed sampling face using a decontaminated trowel or spoon. A sample label will be attached
' to each sample container.
Samples for chemical analysis will be packaged in zip-closure plastic bags and then placed on
ice in a cooler for storage and transport to the analytical laboratory under chain-of-custody
procedures. When transferring samples to the laboratories, the individuals relinquishing samples
and the individuals receiving them will sign, date, and note the time of transfer on the chain-of-
custody record. Each transfer of samples will be documented with a separate entry on the chain-
of-custody.
' Sample locations will be marked with stakes or flags to identify sample location and ID.
Confirmation sample locations will be sketched in field notes, with approximate distances from
known points to allow for generation of a figure depicting sample locations.
Disposable sampling equipment will be discarded after each sample is collected. Reusable
sampling equipment will be cleaned prior to and after each use by washing with Liquinox (or
' equivalent non-phosphate containing detergent) solution in water and subsequent rinsing with
clean water.
A unique sample identification number ("ID") will be assigned to each collected sample. The
' unique sample identification number will include the following:
1. Location abbreviation ("MFR for Manteca Firing Range)
' 2. the type of confirmation sample ("B" for Bottom and"SW" for sidewall);
3. a sequence number
4. a sample depth
' For example, the 10th sidewall sample collected from the surface to a depth of three inches would
be labeled MFR-SW-10-0.25'.
'
AM& PAcrFIcEDGE ENGINEERNG 9 SREW_Manteca_draft.docx
' (949)470-1937;(949)470-0943(FAx)
