cl ologual rech&cs 144 Page 3 <br /> Soil Gas Survey Report <br /> Project No 701 2 <br /> July 23,2002 <br /> ' During the installation on May 23, it was noted that the adjacent cow pasture had been <br /> irrigated the day before Standing puddles of water were evident in various places in the <br /> ' proposed grid area Because of this saturation of the soil, GTI deeded to leave the modules <br /> placed in the pasture (10 total) for a week longer than the modules placed on the Ted Peters <br /> site When the pasture modules were recovered on June 13, the soil was relatively dry <br /> On June 6 and June 13, 2002, Joseph Angulo of GTI mobilized to the site to retrieve the <br /> modules The modules were located, retrieved, placed in their individual containers and <br /> placed into an ice chest chilled to 6 degrees Celsius The samples obtained on June 6 were <br /> held in a GTI freezer with the trip blanks until June 13 Only 17 of 20 buried modules were <br /> ' retrieved successfully, with three found in pieces lying on the ground Two of the modules <br /> (#40211$ & #402140) had been disturbed by cows in the pasture and one (#402122) had <br /> been evicted by rodent burrowing The Chain of Custody was filled out and the samples <br /> ' sent to W L Gore on June 13, 2002 W L Gore received the samples the next day—June <br /> 14, 2002 <br /> ' 1.2 Results <br /> The modules were tested for "Gore's Fuel Hydrocarbon List" A list of these constituents, <br /> the Chain of Custody, the report issued by W L Gore and the contour maps are included in <br /> Appendix A Numerous chemicals were detected but many were in amounts too low to be <br /> ' of concern Of interest are <br /> 1 Gasoline range compounds, including methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) and benzene, <br /> ' toluene, ethyl benzene& xylene (BTEX) <br /> 2 Diesel range compounds <br /> Gasoline and diesel were detected in an area approximately 75 feet northeast of well MW-7 <br /> BTEX was detected in the vicinity of well MW-7, and extending laterally to the north, <br /> northeast and south MTBE was not detected in any of the modules <br /> 1.3 Discussion <br /> ' This survey was designed to investigate the possible presence of both gasoline and diesel <br /> range petroleum hydrocarbons in the northwest portion of the Ted Peters property and the <br /> eastern portion of the Hedegard Property As such, the discussion of the survey will be <br /> ' organized by gasoline results and then by diesel results Refer to Appendix A for the color- <br /> coded W L Gore maps In comparing the maps it is important to keep in mind that even <br /> though the same color pattern was used in each map, the colors do not represent the same <br /> ' mass of contaminants recovered by the Gore-Sorber The purpose of the map is to show <br /> relative high and low concentrations of each analyte <br />
