Mr. Gary Brophy -2- 20 March 1989
As requested in our 17 March 1989 letter, quarterly ground water monitoring is
to be initiated. Water samples are to be analyzed for benzene, toluene,
xylene and ethylbenzene (BTX&E) and total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) as
gasoline and diesel . quarterly monitoring reports are to be submitted by mid-
April , July, October, and January for the previous calendar quarter,
The Tri-Regional Guidelines specify that a nonitoring well is to be installed
within ten feet of the tank pit in the vera led downgradient direction. This
monitoring well is to be installed, but we tecommend that ground water levels
be measured and gradient direction calculat d once again before selecting the
location for installation.
In summary, we recommend the following work be conducted at your site.
1 . Soil borings should be drilled northdoeastIof the tank
western extent
it to
determine the extent of soil contamin tiY,
theshould also be determined, but the pr ximity of the building makes it
impractical .
2. Soil samples are to be collected for every 20 lineal feet of product
E pipeline and beneath the pump islands- If the pipelines. have not been
removed, they are to be removed at this time.
3. Quarterly ground water monitoring of water levels and RTX E and TPH as
gasoline and diesel is to be initiated. quarterly reports are to be
submitted to us and the SJLHD.
4.
