FAugust 8, 1988 A3S Job No. 38053-1
Former Texaco Service Station, Manteca, California
Soil Barin s and Samnlinq
The soil borings will be drilled using 8- to 10-inch-diameter,
continuous-flight, hollow-stem augers and a Mobile B-61 (or
similar) drill rig. The auger flights will be steam-cleaned
prior to use to minimize the possibility of crosshole
contamination. The drilling will be performed under the guidance
of a field geologist, and the earth materials in the boring will
be logged as drilled.
During drilling, sail samples will be collected at 5-foot
intervals using a California-modified, split-spoon sampler
equipped with laboratory-cleaned brass sleeves. Samples will be
collected by advancing the boring to a point immediately above
the sampling depth, then driving the sampler into the native soil
through the hollow center of the auger. The sampler will be
driven 18 inches with a standard 140-pound hammer repeatedly
dropped 30 inches. The number of blows required to drive the
sampler each successive 6-inch interval will be counted and
recorded to give an indication of soil consistency. Examnles of
1!
a Field Boring Log form (Plate P-3) and the Log of Boring Plate
used in our final report (Plate P-4) are included in this work
Plan.
60
9
.4PP1 erg G'e4SYSteMs
