Chemical Spill Response Plan
If the spill is in a non-contained area, the spill will be
surrounded with flexible dikes and absorbent materials . Mops and
buckets, portable pumps and tanks, or a wet-vac will be used to
collect remaining spilled material .
If the spill is in a contained area, portable pumps and tanks
will be used to capture the spilled solution. wet vacs can be
used on photochemicals, but not solvents .
The sewer treatment plant will be notified if the spill has or
threatens to become a release or cause a violation of the
wastewater ordinance. Releases of hazardous materials into the
environment will be reported to the appropriate local regulatory
agency.
All contaminated spill cleanup materials will be put in drums or
brought into the chemical mixing room, along with drums or tanks
of recovered chemicals . All containers will be labeled per the
Hazard Communication Standard.
Disposition of Material
The HSE coordinator will determine disposal methods for recovered
chemicals and spill control materials . Recovered silver-bearing
solutions will be treated in the TMT system before discharging to
the sewer. High or low pH will be neutralized before discharge.
Spill recovery equipment must be rinsed and cleaned and rinsate
disposed appropriately. Absorbent materials will be disposed of
according to procedures appropriate to the chemical contamination
characterization. The HSE coordinator shall make final
determination on disposal options .
Job Titles of Persons Responsible for Maintaining and
Implementing This Plan
Operations Manager ----- John Sabo
Quality Assurance Manager ----- Richard Orr
Health, Safety and Environment Coordinator ----- Jeff Rose
Spill Control Supplies
The following supplies will be maintained in the plant:
Flexible dikes
Absorbent pillows
Two sacks of kitty litter (or equivelant)
PPE: gloves, goggles, face shields, aprons, rubber boots
Emergency Preparedness
Chemical Spill Response Plan
Page 2
