Following well purging and recharge, groundwater was sampled from the monitoring wells using
dedicated disposable bailers and laboratory-supplied containers A groundwater sample was also
' collected from the on-site water supply well using a small-diameter bailer, approximately 15
minutes after the downhole pump activated
Each sample was transported in an iced cooler with chain-of-custody documentation to
Excelchem Environmental Labs (Exelchem), a state certified hazardous waste testing laboratory
' (Certification #2119) Excelchem analyzed each of the groundwater samples for TPH-as-gasoline
and BTEX by EPA Methods 8015M18020, and for MTBE, DIPE, ETBE, TAME, TBA, and 1,2-DCA
' by EPA Method 8260B
23 Residential Water Well Sampling and Analysis
To monitor residential groundwater quality, the four domestic wells nearest to the site were
' sampled for laboratory analysis These wells are located at 101, 102, 109 and 117 Raylow
Avenue (Figure 3) The residential domestic water well samples were collected from spigots, after
allowing the water to run until the downhole pumps activated The water samples were collected
into laboratory-supplied containers and transported in an iced cooler with chain-of-custody
documentation to Excelchem Excelchem analyzed the water samples for TPH-as-gasoline and
BTEX by EPA Methods 8015M18020, and for MTBE, DIPE, ETBE, TAME, TBA, and 1,2-DCA by
EPA Method 82606
24 Cone Penetration Testing and Discrete Groundwater Sampling and Analysis
Between June 26 and 28, 2002, under the supervision of Ramage Environmental, Gregg In-Situ,
Inc (Gregg), a licensed drilling contractor(C-57#656407), advanced soil borings at three
locations, to further evaluate the lateral and vertical extent of impacted groundwater One CPT
' boring (CPT-4A) was located in the vicinity of the previous CPT boring CPT-4, northeast of the
USTs CPT-4A was advanced to a total depth of approximately 150 feet bgs The two other CPT
' borings were located in the on-site bare ground area, north of the service station (CPT-5), and
along the west side of Raylow Avenue (CPT-6) Both CPT-5 and CPT-6 were advanced to total
depths of approximately 143 feet bgs The CPT locations are shown on Figure 3
In the first soil boring at each location, the CPT tool was advanced with a hydraulic ram from the
' center of the rig As the cone is advanced, tip resistance, sleeve friction and pore water pressure
were recorded at five-centimeter intervals These data were interpreted in the field
1
12
1
1
