Randy was not
aware of the Family Dollar Hazardous Materials Categories Poster (IMG 5078) posted on a wall adjacent the HW
storage area. The poster was blocked by two green totes at the time of inspection (IMG 4974). Randy also was not
aware of the phone numbers listed on the poster and on the 3E Company Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)
information document (IMG 5033), nor was he aware of the Family Dollar SDS search feature on the Family Dollar
Portal (IMG 5080), in case questions came up about an item's HW determination.
- Nine packs of expired Nicorette gum were found on sale in the cabinet behind the front register. Three of the
packs expired in January of 2016, and the other six packs expired in March of 2017. Randy scanned the Nicorette
gum and the hand-held scanner prompted him to place the gum into a TX HW tote. Randy placed the nine packs of
Nicorette gum into a bag, marked the bag TX, and placed it into a TX OTC HW tote. (IMG 5084-92)
- Six empty containers of American XT motor oil and one empty container of Peak motor oil were found among the
trash on the ground surrounding the facility's dumpster. Randy stated the empty containers belonged to customers
who bought and used the motor oil from the store. Randy placed the empty motor oil containers in a cardboard box,
took the containers inside the facility, scanned, bagged, and placed the motor oil containers into the TX OTC HW
tote.
