Mariposa Road
Stockton, CA 95205
Dear Ms. Florido,
In response to the inspection conducted on March 25, 2019 and the amended report of April 1,
2019, for Store #31092 in Stockton, California, please see the outline below, and the exhibits
which follow, referencing existing procedures, documentation and/or actions taken:
1. A Dollar Tree/Family Dollar EH&S Specialist conducted a follow-up audit at this store
on April 17, 2019. Store management was coached on the proper identification and
management of hazardous waste including the use of available resources and who to call
for support if unsure. As part of our internal audit, all totes containing waste were
assessed for proper categorization, processing and labeling. Tote contents and labels were
corrected as needed. This included processing empty or partially empty containers that
had held cleaning solutions (both retail and store-use) and other household chemicals. It
was emphasized that empty chemical containers NEVER go in the trash, but must be
processed as waste.
2. In addition to the coaching, the Store Manager and three Assistant Store Managers have
been retrained on the hazardous waste program (EXHIBIT A). We need to train one more
ASM. Hazardous waste is to be processed by managers only. We have provided short
annual “awareness training” to non-management staff, however, it is not mandated by
law; nor do we want every associate in a store managing and processing hazardous waste.
Please see the separate attachment of the new training material.
3. The HMBP for this location was updated on April 26, 2019 and submitted in CERs under
no.10617937.It was sent to the store on April 29, 2019. The Emergency Coordinator role
was explained to the Store Manager, the Store Manager’s (Randy Garcia) name and
phone no. filled-in, and the Emergency Response/Contingency Plan posted for access by
all associates (EXHIBIT B).
FAMILY DOLLAR STORES, INC., POST OFFICE BOX 1017, CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA 28201-1017 (704) 847-6961
