large hole was present 2 to 3-feet bgs. However, no water was observed
entering the well from this hole. A tree root was observed protruding
from the hole and tree roots were also noted during the brushing of t h e
well. A casing seam was noted at 27-feet and appeared to be in good
overall condition with no probable leakage evident. The cement bond log
for this well indicated good cement from the SWI- of 8-feet bgs to 44-feet
bgs, some cement from 44-feet to 53-feet bgs, and less cement from 53-
feet
3-
feet bgs to 59.9-feet bgs. Water apparently enters this well from a depth
deeper than 44-feet bgs. The pump intake was located at a depth of 38-
feet
8-
feet bgs. Based on the information gathered on this well construction,
this well does not appear to be a significant conduit for the vertical
migration of MTBE in the site vicinity.
In addition, this well appears to be sufficiently protected against shallow
zone MTBE contamination due to the presence of a cement sanitary seal.
For this reason, it appears that this well could be put back into service
since no MTBE has been previously detected in water samples collected
from this well. Water samples should, however, continue to be collected
and analyzed from this well on a periodic basis to insure that this well
continues to produce water not impacted by MTBE.
5.0 LIMITATIONS
The descriptions of the wells include observations made by ASE and Zim
Industries during the well preparation, and observations of the video logs
made by ASE, Zim Industries and Welenco. Please note that the
observations made from the video logs are limited by camera angles,
build-up on the well casing and visibility though the water in the well. The
descriptions of the wells are based on the interpretation of only the parts
of the well that were visible during the video logging. Other
interpretations of the visible features in the wells are also possible.
Interpretations of the cement-bond logs were provided by Welenco. ASE's
interpretation of the construction of the wells is based on Welenco's
interpretation of the cement-bond logs. ASE makes no guarantee to the
accuracy of the cement-bond log interpretations. If necessary, you may
contact Welenco for further information on the interpretation of these
logs.
A copy of the actual video logs and cement-bond log data is available for
review at ASE's Danville office. Please contact ASE if you would like to
review this data.
Franks One Stop Report — February 2001
-5-
