Process Hazard Analysis Report July 2020
through the chillers and the wine jackets, it absorbs heat from the wine and
subsequently expands and vaporizes as the pressure of the ammonia drops.
The ammonia vapor is ultimately returned to the compressors to repeat the cycle
after it passes through accumulator vessels that ensure that liquid ammonia is
separated first to avoid damage to the compressors.
The Ammonia Diffusion Tank at System No. 1 is maintained full of water to absorb
a potential system overpressure release from the pressure relief system. An
emergency switch is located at the perimeter of each system compressor area for
emergency shutdown. The ammonia sensor in the System No. 1 diffusion tank
triggers audible /visual notification if ammonia vapor is detected.
See section 5.2 for a detailed list of system safeties.
6
