Collecting, Processing and Recycling UNIVERSAL WASTE
6 Should a release occur, respond to it quickly and effectively to
prevent the release of any hazardous constituents into the environ-
ment (air, water or soil).
7= Accumulate Universal Wastes for no more than one year. Any
reasonable record keeping method can be used to ensure that no
waste remains on-site beyond one year.
8. Do not accumulate more than 5000 kg (11,000 lbs) of all Universal
Wastes combined at any one time.
9 , Before reaching the one year or 5000 kg limit, send the wastes to
a recycler, to a permitted disposal facility or to another universal
waste handler. Make sure all shipments conform with any appli-
cble shipping requirements and standards of the US Department of
Transportation (DOT).
Contact the destination facility prior to shipping your
Universal Waste to ensure that they can accept your waste.
11 , If your shipment is rejected by the destination facility, make
appropriate arrangements to take it back or forward it to an accept-
able destination.
1 Train your employees, contractors or others who work with these
wastes on correct handling and management of your Universal Wastes.
The Excal Visual training kit is designed to help accomplish this
training requirement.
