Hazardous Waste Quick Reference Guide 3 May 2019 <br />Storing Hazardous Waste Safely <br />Waste is processed and stored in the Hazardous Waste <br />Accumulation Area in the back room. Waste is scanned, <br />placed in heavy self-sealing plastic bags, and stored by <br />waste category in separate totes. This helps prevent <br />incompatible chemicals from mixing together. Our vendor <br />picks-up waste periodically and transports it to a disposal <br />facility. <br />The hazardous waste categories and their abbreviations are <br />listed below. These categories are shown on the individual <br />tote labels. <br /> AF: Aerosols, Flammables, Combustibles <br /> CA: Corrosive Acids <br /> CB: Corrosive Bases <br /> OX: Oxidizers <br /> STOU: State-regulated Waste, also includes Toxics <br /> UW: Universal Waste <br />Supplies <br />The following supplies should always be available at the waste station: <br /> Disposable gloves (of sufficient weight) <br /> Safety glasses/goggles <br /> Hazardous Waste Quick Reference Guide <br /> Company Hazardous Waste Poster: “How to Properly Handle and <br />Dispose of Retail Product Waste” <br /> Waste Category Guide <br /> Plastic totes with latching/locking lids <br /> Sealable plastic bags in multiple sizes <br /> Tote labels for each category (and marker or pen to complete them) <br /> Absorbent or kitty litter <br /> Broom and dustpan <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
