SKS MANAGEMENT MANURE PLAN
Manure Management is an important practice requiring the
same attention as feeding, egg gathering and temperature control.
Woody Houses 1-5 are cleaned daily with a cleaning machine. The
manure is then brought out and dumped into a manure pit. Next, the
manure is pumped and spread on a drying pad. While on the drying pad; we
use a spring tooth to move the manure back and forth to expedite the drying
process and to reduce the risk of fly breeding.
House 7-This is a high rise facility where the manure is cleaned every
six months. This manure goes to the drying pad.
House 6-This facility has a manure belt system. The manure is brought
to the spread truck directly.
During the winter season, we use the ponds because it's too wet to use
the drying pad.
OBJECTIVE :
1. Minimize fly production to avoid public complaints and improve public
relations.
2. Reduce dust and odors too.
3. Avoid polution of surface and underground water.
SKS is going to keep drying the chicken manure on a dry pad to keep
the moisture down. As a result it will not produce flies. In the future,
SKS plans to install a composting machine.
