METAL FINISHING SOLUTIONS, INC.
2. HAZARDOUS WASTE GENERATION
Metal Finishing Solutions, Inc. is in the metal finishing business. The company processes
include cleaning, Conversion Coating and rinsing of metal parts provided by its customer.
These steps require the use of hazardous materials such as Conversion Coating solutions
and rinsewater. The waste materials generated in the processes are hazardous waste.
The current list of hazardous wastes generated at the facility is provided in Exhibit 1 below.
The two main areas in the plant are (1) Conversion Coating and (2)Waste Treatment.
Customer parts are cleaned in alkaline cleaner solutions then the parts are Conversion
Coated. The parts are transferred to successive tanks containing either the process solution
or rinsewater. The wastes are spent processing solutions, relatively concentrated rinsewater
and dilute rinsewater.
The spent Conversion Coating solutions and concentrated rinsewater are treated in the
company's onsite Waste Treatment System (WTS). The dilute rinsewater that contains
metals is also recycled through the WTS. The dilute rinsewater that does not contain any
metals is neutralized and discharged.
Exhibit 1
Hazardous Wastes Generated Onsite
No. Area Process/Waste Parameters to
Analyze
1 Conversion Coating Area Spent process solutions: Chromium, Copper,
• Acid Waste Nickel, Zinc, pH
• Tanks#5 & 8 (depending on which
solution is being
analyzed)
2 Conversion Coating Area Rinse Waters
• Caustic Waste-
Tank#2
• Tanks#3,4,6,7,9
• Drag Out Rinse
• Regeneration
3 Waste Treatment Discharge to POTW Arsenic, Cadmium,
Chromium, Copper,
Lead, Mercury, Nickel,
Silver, Zinc, pH, TDS,
O&G, SGT-HEM,
Cyanide, Organics
(Method EPA 608, 624
&625)
1325 EI Pinal Drive Stockton,CA 95205 Tel 408.802.4977
