IF- <br /> 2.0 SITE-SPECIFICHAZARDS AND RISKS <br /> 2.1 CHEMICAL HAZARDS <br /> Chemicals that may be encountered on this Property are tetrachloroethylene and trichloroethylene [and/or <br /> maybe vinyl chloride: PEL= 1 ppm] which each have Permissible Exposure Levels(PELs)of 25 parts per <br /> million. Refer to respective chemical information sheets in Appendix A-Chemical Information Sheets for <br /> specific chemical and physical properties,route of entry, and harmful effects. <br /> 2.2 PHYSICAL HAZARDS <br /> Physical hazards generally involve safety concerns such as injury, electrical shock, noise, extreme <br /> temperatures,radiation,etc.,that are physically induced and may cause personal injury or death to exposed <br /> individuals. <br /> Physical hazards that may be encountered during field activities include the following: <br /> ■ Slip, trip and fall hazards associated with holes, excavations, ditches, uneven terrain, cave-ins, <br /> slippery surfaces, unstable surfaces,overhead equipment, sharp objects, steep grades, uncovered, <br /> buried power cables, and gas and water lines <br /> ■ Noise hazards associated with diesel engines, electrical motors, generators, drilling rigs, vacuum <br /> trucks, and air compressors <br /> ■ Extreme temperatures of heat or cold <br /> ■ Back injuries associated with lifting and moving heavy equipment, drums, auger, etc. <br /> ■ Electrical shock from uncovered, severed underground electrical lines or overhead power lines <br /> 2.3 BIOLOGICAL HAZARDS <br /> Biological hazards involve biological agents or living organisms that can cause sickness or death to exposed <br /> individuals. <br /> Biological hazards that may be encountered during field activities include insect bite and stings. Black <br /> widow spiders can be encountered when opening monitoring well lids or performing operations in confined <br /> areas.
