08 January 2020 AdvancedGeo
Project No. 19-4848 An Employee-Owned Company
Page 2of3 0i N M
On 21 November 2019, Valued Engineering began excavation of the UST area. Prior to
uncovering the UST, approximately 200 gallons of water from the tank was pumped out
and stored in a tank onsite. Once all the water was removed, the area around the
UST/drum was removed and soil was stockpiled adjacent to the work area. Following
unearthing of the UST, mud from the bottom of the UST was removed and stored in a
55-gallon steel drum. Inspection of the interior of the UST indicated that a number of holes
were present in the bottom, sides and top which prevented the UST from being triple-
rinsed.
Under supervision of the SJCEHD, a Combustible Gas Meter (CGM), capable of reading
lower explosive limit (LEL), oxygen, carbon monoxide and hydrogen sulfide, was used to
determine atmospheric conditions in the UST prior to sampling. Once atmospheric
conditions in the UST were determined to be acceptable, the UST was removed and set
aside for sampling beneath the tank area.
A total of one soil sample (T-1) was collected from beneath the UST and two samples
were collected from the stockpiled soil (SP-1 and SP-2). The sample beneath the UST
was collected by hand packing a two-inch by six-inch stainless-steel sleeve from the
excavator bucket. The two soil samples collected from the stockpile were also hand
packed into two-inch by six-inch sleeves. Once the soil samples were collected each end
of the sleeves were covered with Teflon tape, capped and sealed with tape. The samples
were then labeled with sample designation, date, time and samplers initials and placed in
a chilled container. The samples were delivered to Alpha Scientific Corporation (ASC), a
CELAP laboratory, for analysis. Each sample was analyzed for the following:
• Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) quantified as gasoline, diesel and by EPA
method 8015M.
• Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs, including Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene
and xylenes (BTEX) in accordance with EPA Method 82608.
• Semi-Volatile Organic Compounds (SVOCs) by EPA method 8270C.
• PCBs by EPA method 8082.
• Title 22 metals by EPA method 6010B/7471A.
Upon completion of sampling, backfill material was imported to fill the UST cavity and the
remaining stockpiles were placed back into the excavation.
3.0. FINDINGS
The following is a summary of the analytical findings:
0 TPH was not detected in the gasoline, diesel or oil range was not detected in any
