ARCADIS Ms. Kathy Amaru
May 26, 2011
Monitoring Well Survey
The top of casing and ground surface elevation, as well as the northing and easting
for the new monitoring well, will be surveyed by a California-licensed land surveyor
after completion of the monitoring well installation.
Decontamination
All down-hole drilling and sampling equipment will be steam-cleaned following the
completion of each sampling location. Decontamination of non-dedicated or non-
disposable field equipment will be conducted using an Alconox®solution and
deionized water rinse to prevent potential cross-contamination.
Investigation-Derived Waste
Investigation derived waste (IDW)generated during investigation activities may
include soil cuttings, decontamination fluids, purgewater, personal protective
equipment(PPE), and other disposable sampling materials. Soil cuttings derived
from drilling as well as wastewater from decontamination procedures and purgewater
from the collection of groundwater samples will be placed in 55-gallon drums. PPE,
such as nitrile gloves, and disposable supplies or other household-type waste, such
as paper and plastic, will be treated as municipal waste. One composite soil sample
and one composite water sample will be collected from the IDW drums and analyzed
for site-related constituents of concern to characterize the waste for disposal.
Pending characterization, IDW will be stored onsite in a secure and controlled area.
Containerized waste will be disposed of in accordance with waste hauler, waste
handling facility and state and federal requirements.
Quality Assurance and Quality Control Procedures
To verify that the analytical data collected during the investigation is valid and
useable, the data will be evaluated using a standard quality assurance and quality
control (QA/QC) program.
Field QA/QC procedures will include calibration of sampling equipment(including
PIDs and water quality parameter meters), the use of standard chain of custody
procedures for sample control, and written and visual documentation of field activities
in daily field logs and by photograph. One field groundwater duplicate and one
Page:
McD Island Well Inslall Workplan FlnaI.DOC 6/8
