Box 388 <br /> Stockton, CA 95201-0388 <br /> RE: Pacific Gas and Electric Company's (PG&E's), McDonald Island <br /> Underground Gas Storage Facility Reported Release Closure <br /> Dear Mr. Knoll: <br /> This letter is a follow-up to the release reported to your office and to the County <br /> OES on December 16, 1998, from PG&E's, McDonald Island Underground Gas <br /> Storage Facility located near Holt, CA. <br /> The release was discovered on December 16th, at 1630 Hours. The crew on duty <br /> made immediate notification to the Environmental Department at PG&E which <br /> resulted in notification to County OES and Sheriff's Dispatch at 1736 Hours and <br /> 1740 Hours respectively. A message was left with your office at 1745 Hours and a <br /> pager return follow-up call was made to you at 1830 Hours on December 16th <br /> Approximately 20 to 30 gallons of triethylene glycol sprayed from a corroded reboiler <br /> pipe under the platform depositing glycol over a 25 ft. by 50 ft. area. Upon <br /> discovery, a crew was dispatched to remove all the visibly impacted gravel. This <br /> material was stockpiled in a roll-off bin on-site and was transported to Chemical <br /> Waste Management's Kettleman Hills facility on January 5, 1999, under Uniform <br /> Hazardous Waste Manifest numbered 98067987. A copy of the manifest is <br /> attached. <br /> As requested by your office confirmation soil sampling was done, samples were <br /> taken on January 6, 1999, and analytical results indicate non-detectable amounts of <br /> triethylene glycol were found in the samples. A copy of the results and chain-of- <br /> custody record are attached for these samples. <br />
