3.2 Groundwater Monitoring System
The monitoring system for the former pond site historically consisted of nine
groundwater monitoring wells, two well points, nine piezometers and five surface
water monitoring locations. This groundwater monitoring network was installed
during previous site investigations between 1985 and 1991. A detailed description of
the development and components of the monitoring system are documented in
various reports prepared by PG&E in 1987, 1990 and 1991. This monitoring network
is shown in Figure 5. The well points, piezometers and surface water locations were
used in conjunction with the monitoring wells to determine regional and site
groundwater flow direction and gradient. The monitoring wells were additionally
used to determine groundwater quality.
4.0 SITE CHARACTERIZATION METHODOLOGY
4.1 Well Drilling and Installation Details
Details are as follows:
4.1.1 Monitoring Well Locations and Depths
One shallow and one deep groundwater monitoring well will be installed in
the vicinity of the DMP, at locations shown on Figure 5. The shallow well
will have a screen length of ten feet. The deep well screen length will cover
the distance between the first and second clay layers (approximately ten feet).
Z:PROP-PfN1999%1524.pxdelivble4p-1524-I dm
7
