16
May 22, 1997
Soil east and west of the wellhead was sampled at 38 inches below the ground surface and analyzed for
hydraulic oil by EPA Method 8015M.
June 11, 1997
Core samples in the previous areas of sampling were collected at 4 '/2 - 5 feet and 8 '/2- 9 feet from the
ground surface and analyzed for hydraulic oil (EPA Method 8015M). An Extended Soil Probe(ESP)
was used to collect 1-inch diameter soil samples in 3-foot sections to a maximum depth of 15 feet
(depending on soil conditions). Each soil core collected by the ESP was encased in a plastic liner. The
core liners were driven into the soil by a 12.5 lb. Sliding drop hammer that advanced the core barrel and
filled the plastic liner. The core barrel was extracted from the subsurface using a floor-operated jack that
allowed rapid retrieval. By repeating this process, the subsurface soils were sampled and collected. The
core samples taken below the cement slurry(approximately 12 inches thick)aided in establishing
contamination depth.
October 21 -30, 1997
Between the 21st and 30th additional soil was sampled at one foot intervals(10, 11, and 12 feet below
the ground surface)and analyzed for hydraulic oil by EPA Method 8015M.
December 2, 1997
Soil and water was sampled at 13 feet below the ground surface and analyzed for hydraulic oil by EPA
Method 8015M.
April 21, 1998
Soil was sampled at 14, 15, and 16 feet below the ground surface and analyzed for hydraulic oil by EPA
Method 8015M.
August 18, 1998
Soil and water was sampled at 16 and 17 feet below the ground surface and analyzed for hydraulic and
motor oil (EPA Method 8015M). The stockpiled soil removed from gas well 18 west during the
excavation periods was sampled for CAM 17 metals(EPA Method 3050A/6010A/7471A),BTEX
(SW846 8020A),and TPH as Hydraulic and Motor Oil(EPA Method 8015M.)
562 1-98 100.doc 2
