ACTION GUIDE#1— HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL SPILL <br /> GENERAL INFORMATION: <br /> Some specialty chemicals are used in LAWTF operations.The most common chemicals are: <br /> Arsenic Filter Cake Cas#7440-38-2 540 cu.ft. <br /> These materials could be spilled from bulk storage and the injection and transfer equipment <br /> are subject to leakage. <br /> Prevention: <br /> • Chemicals are stored in properly labeled containers such as tanks, bins, or drums. <br /> • Secondary Containment should be considered. <br /> • All chemicals must have an SDS available to employees. <br /> CAUTION: <br /> • The hazards associated with the chemicals depend on the type of chemical and <br /> concentration. <br /> • The SDS should be periodically reviewed as part of the HAZCOM refresher training. <br /> INDICATION: <br /> • Visible or reported observation of the release, <br /> • Symptoms of exposure such as coughing, skin and/or eye irritation, and nausea. <br /> IF QUALIFIED,THE FIRST RESPONDER SHOULD FOLLOW THIS SEQUENCE: <br /> 1. Notify 9-1-1, as appropriate. <br /> 2. Assess situation, move upwind and outside of spill area, and note all details of spill: <br /> chemical, size, source, location, and discovery time. <br /> 3. Stop any sources of ignition within the area. No smoking. <br /> 4. Sound alarm. Alert others in the area. <br /> 5. Notify On-Chief Operator immediately with details of spill. <br /> 6. Without entering a dust/vapor cloud or confined area, stop source. <br /> 7. Deny access. <br /> 8. Attempt to contain (if not done earlier) and divert it from entering adjacent property, <br /> waterways, facility drains, or roads. <br /> 9.
